Insurance defense lawyers can ask dumb questions (and largely get away with it)

I feel no shame in stating such a thing, nor do I find it in any way inappropriate. Plaintiff's lawyers and plaintiffs who have sat through a deposition or (even worse) a trial will understand. Plaintiff's lawyers have to be crafty and smart to win. It's much harder being a plaintiff than being a defendant. Especially in North Carolina where the thirty year war on trial lawyers, outrage over the McDonald's coffee case, and the results of considerably lobbying efforts have diminished the value of personal injury cases throughout the state. And that's a shame. Because injured people suffer as a result. So, no, I don't feel bad criticizing insurance defense lawyers who are nasty and malicious to my clients. Sometimes you have to "punch a bully in the face" to stop bullying.
