I had a car accident in North Carolina: what should I do?

A car accident can be a scary thing especially when you are the victim, but it's important to keep your wits about you so that you don't get "taken" by the insurance company. Insurance companies are pros at screwing you out of money. Here are some things you should never do after a car accident:
  • Don't leave the accident scene.
  • Don't post about the accident on social media.
  • Don't sign an agreement without consulting a lawyer.
  • Don't lose your head.
  • Don't forget to call 911.
  • Don't forget to get the other person's insurance information.
  • Don't responsibility for the accident to ANYONE.
  • Don't skip getting medical care.
  • Don't fail to collect available information.
  • Don't fail to use your phone to take pictures, make videos, and gather other useful information; it's your best tool.
  • Don't forget to call your insurance company.
  • Don't make assumptions about your own well-being.
