Karmelo Anthony (a black man) convicted of murder by jury with no black people on it
A jury with no black members deliberated for less than an hour yesterday (June 9, 2026) and returned a verdict of guilty for the charge of first degree murder in State of Texas v. Karmelo Anthony, a black man, for the killing of a white man, Austin Metcalf. It is difficult to imagine that this type of jury will not make the case ripe for appeal. Likewise, a similar jury would have reached a different result were the defendant white, especially considering Austin Metcalf was 6'1 213 lbs as was his twin brother both of whom were joined by a group of thugs who threatened Anthony, who was 5'8 130 lbs. In fear of his life, Anthony stabbed and killed Austin Metcalf. Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison. The verdict has been widely criticized by lawyers and other proponents of criminal justice have almost universally condemned the verdict.
