“Neck Tattoo”

What’s up with that neck tattoo?

Was it something fun you decided to do?

Perhaps a reminder of a difficult time you went through?

Or that you just didn’t have a clue.

That’s okay.

Because it can be hard getting through the day.

Searching for the correct way.

Never knowing what to say.

Tattoos are forever, but they do migrate.

Not enough to make people’s concerns about you abate.

Seeing your neck ink will cause them to pause and wait.

All to avoid your perceived state.

Here’s a hint: it isn’t great.

It’s not art.

Just proof that you had a brain fart.

Maybe lack a working heart.

Or that you tumbled hard off an apple cart.

Whether it says BTK, BRB, B2B, or BLT.

Is it really what you want to be?

Maybe the tattoo is something people can’t read.

And that fear of the unknown plants a seed.

And that seed grows in their minds to where they view you as no better than an old orange rind.

That is…if you ever cross their mind.

Likely you will just blend.

Never to be thought about again.

Honestly, here anonymity is your friend.

Perhaps you are just human graffiti.

Unknowable like Neferiti.

As far away as the island of Tahati.

You are clearly no oracle.

Or a god, or goddess, or anything historical.

You lean diabolical.

I think the answer is that  you aren’t that deep.

The lettering on your face looks cheap.

Regardless of what it says, one word cries out of the void that is you…creep.

If this sounds harsh, I don’t mean it  that way.

Actually, it’s exactly what I meant to say.

It’s just what people will say.

Or what they already said today.

Or what they might have said yesterday.

That neck tattoo isn’t invisible ink.

Or erasable ink.

Or washable ink.

It’s indelible ink.

It is forever (and lifelong) proof that you don’t know how to think.
